Novice Program Information for 2019-2020 (House League, Select and Representative)

Orillia Minor Hockey will be offering a Novice Select/Rep Program.  Two teams will be formed  in September -  Minor Novice (7 year olds - Select) and Major Novice (8 year olds - Rep).  The program will be played on modified ice 4 on 4 until January 15, 2020 than graduate to full ice 5 on 5.  Please read further for more details.


Minor Novice (2012 ONLY) and Major Novice ( 2011) for both house league and those players wanting to tryout for Select/Representative
The Novice Pathway is a progressive, learn to play teaching curriculum.  This pathway is an important transition from the Initiation pathway and into the Atom pathway.  It consists of four phases of instruction, designed for entry level hockey players as well as those graduating from Initiation.  Introduces, develops and refines the skills of skating, passing, puck control and shooting in a progressive one step at a time manner. 

* All players born in 2012 and 2011 must register for Novice house league. (Registration for house league opens in August check the website under Registration Information for dates and times)
* Players will attend 4 evaluation skates starting the week of September 3, 2019.  Information on the times for the 4 skates will be on the website in August.
* At the end of the 4 evaluation skates, players based on their abilities will be placed in either Novice/Atom house league, Tyke House League or be asked to tryout for Select for the Minor Novice or Rep for Major Novice team.  Those players/parents who are asked to tryout for Select/ Rep and do not want to are under no obligation and will be placed in Novice/Atom house league.
* 3 Tryouts will than take place for the Minor Novice Select and Major Novice Representative Teams - tryout fees will be charged (tbd by July 1st).

OVERVIEW - as per OHF structure and guidelines
A development phase for the first 10 weeks which will include practices and modified ice games. (games will be scheduled against other centres in York Simcoe).  Regular Season will consist of 16 weeks of practices and games with modified games the first half and full ice commencing after January 15, 2020.  There will be no playoffs and the season end date is March 31st.
* Teams will be allowed to participate in a maximum of 3 Tournaments (Jamborees).

Coach(s) are required for the Minor Novice and Major Novice team(s) and applications can be completed online. 
Deadline for submission of applications is Wednesday, July 31, 2019. 
Candidates must have a valid Coach 1-Intro to Coach certification as well as Respect in Sport Leader and Gender Identity Training.
