HOMETOWN CHAMPS
In a 12 team division in the Jim Wilson Chevrolet Buick GMC Winter Classic Hockey tournament, the Moonstone Mechanical Novice A team reigned supreme, winning their second tournament championship in 2 weeks.

The Terriers kicked the tournament off in a Thursday night match up against Hwy 11 rivals, Oro. The Terriers dominated the Thunder winning 7-0. Goal scorers were Kyson Campbell (2), Brock Mc Kay, Craig Scott, Prestin Tryon, Josh May and Jackson Cook. Assists went to Jackson Long (2), Ronin Black, May (2), Cook, Greydon King, Tryon (2), Colten Sharland, Hudson Inglis,Eric Shelswell and Mc Kay.

Craig Scott and Josh May led the Terrier charge in a Friday morning game against the Oshawa Minor Generals, each scoring 2 goals, Scott added 2 assists and May 1 assist, in an 8-1 win.  Other goal scorers were Mc Kay, Black, King and Inglis.  Long, Mc Kay and Tryon each earned 2 assists, while Shelswell and Cook each had 1.

In the final round robin game, the Terriers faced off against Garden City.  May continued to find the back of the net, scoring 4 goals and adding 1 assist, on the way to another 7-0 win.  Shellswell, Black and Mc Kay added the other 3 goals. Inglis added 4 assists, Mc Kay (3), Campbell (2), Black, Scott, and May 1 each.

Their hard work in round robin play gave the Terriers first place in Pool A and a bye into the semi finals.  After the quarter final match ups, the Terriers found themselves once again playing against the Oro Thunder.  Oro wasn’t just going to let the Terriers have the semi final win, scoring the first goal.  The Terriers weren’t going to let this semi-final game be their last on championship Sunday, storming back for a 7-2 win.  Josh May’s goal scoring weekend continued as he added a hat trick to the win.  Mc Kay added 2 more goals and an assist, Inglis added a goal and an assist, Shellswell a goal and North and Scott an assist.

The championship game against the West Hill Golden Hawks was a hard fought, back and forth battle. Goalies Sam Weaver and Gunner Wolfe were amazing between the pipes; diving, blocking and stopping the pucks that came at them.  The Terriers fell behind early in the first, but did not let being a goal behind stop them.  Inglis put the Terriers on the scoreboard with 3:08 left in the second. This goal gave the Terriers a surge of energy and after battling for the puck in front of the West Hill net Tryon and Scott added an assist to the second goal of the period scored by King.  The third period was a period of excellent defensive play by both teams, neither team willing to give up on that championship trophy.  Midway through the third the Terriers worked their break out play as North passed it to Scott who fed it up to Tryon who put it past the West Hill goalie for a 3-1 lead.  West Hill added a second late in the third,  and later pulled their goalie to try to tie and force the game into a shoot out. But the Terriers went on the defensive, dumping the puck out each chance they could get.  When the final buzzer went, the Novice A Terriers were crowned the HOMETOWN CHAMPIONS.-Trisha Scott
