Novice A Terriers On a Roll
On the heels of their return from a successful second-place finish in the Sudbury 80’s hockey tournament, the Millwood Logistics Novice A Orillia Terriers have gone 3-1-1 in their last five league games and have climbed into fourth place in league standings.

The first of the five games was the Terriers’ only loss and it came at the hands of the Bradford Bulldogs in a disappointing 5-2 decision.  Before the Terriers knew what hit them, Bradford had potted four unanswered goals in the opening period and coasted the rest of the way to the victory.  Orillia’s goals came from Colsen Maracle and Carter Balkwill, both in the third period and both unassisted.

Orillia then began the first of its current 4-game unbeaten streak by edging past the East Gwillimbury Eagles 2-1.  Terrier goals came from Aiden Shilling and Jesse Mole, with assists from Ridley Tucker, Cameron Carruthers and Aiden MacDonald.  Carter Oakley and Dylan Rankin shared duties and were impressive in the Orillia goal, with the lone Eagles’ goal coming with only fifteen seconds left on the clock to spoil the shutout.

League rival and first-place Innisfil Winterhawks were the next test for the Terriers, and Orillia put together an excellent team effort to earn a 1-1 draw at Rotary Place.  Orillia took the early lead on a shorthanded and unassisted effort by Aiden MacDonald, and then shut down the Winterhawks’ offence until an unlucky bounce in the third period got Innisfil on the score sheet.  Carter Oakley was between the pipes for Orillia and had a solid game.

Orillia next faced a tough NobleKing Knights squad with fourth place on the line.  Orillia started slow and spotted the visiting team a 2-0 lead by the mid-way point of the second period.  However, a goal by Carter Balkwill from Jesse Mole as the second period was coming to a close gave the Terriers some much-needed momentum, and the Terriers kept the Knights pinned in their own end for almost the entire third period.  Aiden MacDonald notched a power play goal on an assist from Ridley Tucker to tie the game, and Carter Balkwill’s second goal of the game from Jesse Mole completed the come-from-behind 3-2 win.  Carter Oakley and Dylan Rankin shared backstopping duties for the Terriers, and both stepped up to make some key saves at critical times to help the cause.

In their most recent contest, the Terriers visited the Aurora Tigers and dominated the home team from start to finish earning an impressive 5-0 win.  Carter Oakley was in net for his third shutout of the season and Devante Choptiany and Chase Beiers played well on defence to limit the Tigers’ scoring chances.  Scoring was well-distributed for the Terriers, with Ridley Tucker netting a pair and singles going to Carter Balkwill, Tyler Colebrook and Aiden MacDonald.  Colebrook and MacDonald each also added an assist, as did Choptiany, Jesse Mole and Will Timpano.
