Three’s a Charm! Bantam Terriers win their third tournament of year and take Silver Stick Regional Championship
The Rama First Nation Minor Bantam Terriers claimed their third tournament championship this season in Owen Sound, taking the Silver Stick Regional Championship.

Following up on their tournament titles in the Richmond Hill Early Bird Classic and Pittsburgh Columbus Day Clash, the Terriers once again rose to the top. The team opened the tournament with a real tight 2-1 win over the Waterloo Wolves. Logan Matthews took the win in net as the Terriers battled tooth and nail to gain the needed win. Speedy forward Jordan Burnett was awarded player of the game, scoring the Terriers opening goal. Ethan Sleep had the winning goal for Orillia. Gray Sleep-Carnahan had two assists, while Tyler Gysbers had a single helper. In game two against New Hamburg Huskies, the Terriers dropped only their second loss of the year losing 3-1 to a team laden with fast skaters and several players checking in at 6 feet tall. It was 2-1 until late in the game when a Huskie player cemented the win by stealing the puck from a Terrier forward and beat Terrier goalie Nick Raseta. Gysbers had Orillia’s only goal, assisted by Zac Bell. With the risk of elimination from their first tournament lighting their fire, the Orillia team stormed out from the gate and absolutely demolished the Erie North Shore Storm 9-0 in their last game. Logan Matthews earned the shutout and the offence was simply explosive. Connor White, Colten MacDonald and Sleep-Carnahan each had a pair of goals, while Brody Tracey, Jared Dewey and Gysbers had single taliies. Gysbers was playmaker of the game with four assists. Burnett has a pair of helpers and singles went to Tracey, Chris Brown, Logan Matthews, Scott Adams, Sleep, Carson Keddy and Jared Dewey. Ethan Sleep was named player of the game. Owen Downer logged key penalty killing time in the big win. After having to wait until the last round robin game, the Terriers learned they had qualified for the semi-finals and took on the Guelph Gyphrons for the chance to play in the finals. Even with an explosive attack, team defense would be key to playoff victories. The Terrier coaching staff had the team well prepared as they controlled the game start to finish. Nicky Raseta snuffed out all Guelph shots as the Terriers prevailed 3-0 for a spot in the finals. Gysbers, Brown and Adams beat the Guelph goalie to power the team to a win. Assists were provided by Sleep, Jacob Dewey, Jared Dewey, Sleep-Carnahan, Brown and MacDonald. Gysbers was named player of the game. For the third tournament this season, the Terriers played for the championship. To make it three tournament wins meant they would have to dispatch the favoured Huskies, based on preliminary action. The Terriers would not be denied their third straight title by playing an excellent tight checking defensive game and downed the shocked Huskies 2-1 to qualify for the International Silver Stick. Zac Bell, on a feed from Tracey, with the team’s first goal negated an early Huskie 1-0 lead. With the game on the line, Scotty Adams banged home a rebound for the tournament winning goal on assists from MacDonald and Jared Dewey. The team was inspired to follow up on the Orillia Minor Atoms’ Championship win just hours earlier in the same arena. Logan Matthews would be beat only once and was awarded the Championship Finals MVP award. Next up, the team looks to make it 4 in a row at this weekend’s Orillia Jim Wilson Tournament.
