The Rama First Nations Orillia Terriers Minor
Bantam “A” team travelled to the Ottawa area over the past weekend to compete
in the Capital Volunteer Cup.
The Terriers advanced to the finals with round robin wins against Leitrim Hawks and Ottawa West Golden Knights balanced by a loss to the Nepean Raiders. The Terriers sought revenge for that one loss and came up big in the Semi Finals, ousting the Raiders from the tournament with a 3-1 victory, advancing to the finals against the Casselman Ice Dogs. The Terriers played well at both ends of the ice throughout the tournament. The pairing of Thomas Bovett and Liam McDonald provided strong defensive coverage while supporting the goaltending of Teddy McCollum-Kuntz and Coulter Taylor. The Finals were full of action at both ends of the ice and ended in a 2-2 draw after regulation play. The teams headed to sudden victory overtime but after double overtime, the score remained knotted at 2-2. The teams then headed for a shootout. After 6 rounds of shootout play, the Ice Dogs emerged victorious, handing the Terriers the Silver medal. The Terriers received balanced scoring throughout the tournament with the following players hitting the scoresheet; Will Mullen (2g, 2a), Owen Buckland (2g, 1a), Jayden Murison (1g, 2a), Cole Rasmussen, (2g), Bradley Adams (2g), Aaron Zurwaski (1g, 2a), Jack Marwick (1g, 1a), Isabela Fleguel (1g, 1a), Jesse Ashkewe (1g, 1a), Aiden Colebrook (1g), Cole Silverthorn (3a), and Nolan MacNeal (2a), Austin Sawyer (1a). Players of the game awards were presented to Rasmussen, Zurwaski, Bovett, Mullen and McCollum-Kuntz.
