COVID Guidelines and Protocols for return to play
Submitted By Jennifer McLean on Mon 02 28, 22
This message is to address Orillia
Minor Hockey members concerns and confusion surrounding COVID guidelines and
protocols for return to play.
Orillia Minor Hockey has been in daily contact
with YSMHL and OMHA.
York Region Public Health and Simcoe
Muskoka District Health Unit continue to adhere to a mandatory 10 days away
from hockey with any defined close COVID contact within 48 hours.
The Public Health rules are the following and have NOT CHANGED:
If you player or team official tests positive for Covid-19 and has been in contact with the team within 48 hours of the onset of their symptoms, the following is to occur:
o The player would be required to self-isolate with their immediate household for 5 days, and until your symptoms have been improving for at least 24-48 hours;
o The player and their immediate household would then self-monitor for 5 days wearing tight fitted masks and being socially distant when leaving their residence for 5 days;
o The team would be required to self-monitor for 10 days wearing tight fitted masks and being socially distant when leaving their residence.
§ Due to the masks and socially distant guideline, players could not play hockey.
· If the team comes in close contact with an opposing player, referee, or off ice official who has tested positive for Covid-19, the team is no longer required to self monitor and is not considered a close contact.
Although other restrictions appear to be easing and are changing almost daily, they continue to mandate this rule for hockey in our community.
Please understand this is NOT a decision made by Orillia Minor Hockey.
If you are concerned with these rules and their apparent contradiction to other parts of society and schools, then please contact the SMDHU.

Until SMDHU changes its guidelines, Orillia Minor Hockey must comply with the law.
Thank you for your understanding.
