Minor Peewees start season with a split
Submitted By Michelle Robitaille on Saturday, November 4, 2017

The Jim Wilson minor peewee Orillia Terriers started their season at the Garden City Early Bird Tournament recently.

Orillia took on the host centre Garden City in Game 1, losing the contest 3-2. Cohen Robitaille scored the two special team goals.

In Game 2, Orillia dominated a team from the United States, the Clarence Mustangs, in a 10-0 win. Hunter McLaughlin, Markus Petroff and Tommy Goard each netted two in the contest, while Ryker Jacobs shut the door in net.

Orillia next battled the Guelph Gryphons, winning 2-0. Connor Sampson registered the shutout in net.

Orillia earned a semifinal berth by beating the Woodstock Jr. Navy Jets 6-2. Ethan Telford, Connor Varley and Devin Fisher led the attack for Orillia.

Orillia faced off against the Oakville Rangers in the semis but was unable to solve the goaltender and was eliminated from the tournament. Strong defence was displayed by Chase Beiers, Jordan Blunt, Lukas Hagman, Cameron Weishar and Max McKay all weekend, while Eric Taher cheered for his teammates from the bench as he patiently waited to heal from off-season injuries.

Orillia's regular season started with a game against the Barrie Colts. Despite a hard-fought game, Orillia lost.

Orillia's first home game was against the Markham Waxers. The Terriers got goals from Varley and Robitaille to win 3-2. They followed that up with a lone goal by Varley to earn a victory over the King Rebellion. Jacobs earned both wins in net.

Orillia lost the next home game against the Bradford Bulldogs 5-3.

With a 2-2 record, the young Terriers were looking to build some momentum prior to their next tournament. Orillia battled the East Gwillimbury Eagles. Bennett Mackey, Nathan Healy and McLaughlin led the offence while Sampson had a stellar game in net as the Terriers won 6-1.

Orillia beat Richmond Hill 2-1 in the next contest when Blunt fired home the game winner in the final minute of the game. Then, Varley and Goard each potted a hat trick as the Terriers defeated Aurora 7-3. Fisher then netted a hat trick of his own as Orillia dominated Innisfil 6-3. Telford, Robitaille and Healy added two points each and the net was defended by Sampson. Orillia then won its fifth in a row, defeated the Rebellion 3-1. Petroff, Robitaille and Taher scored for the Terriers. Orillia saw its winning streak come to an end when it lost to Richmond Hill 4-1.

Determined to learn how to elevate their game, the coaching staff entered the Terriers in the Mississauga North Stars AA Scotiabank Cup Tournament. In the first game, Orillia faced off against the host North Stars. Orillia won 3-0 as Healy potted two goals on stellar assists from Goard and Mackey. Jacobs earned the shutout.

Orillia skated to a 2-1 victory over the Georgina Blaze, led by Mackey and Goard, while Weishar and Taher added assists. Sampson earned the victory in net.

In Game 3, Orillia took on the eventual tournament winners, the Burlington Eagles. Orillia lost 1-0, but had strong defence from Beiers, Mackey and Hagman as they dove in front of shots and helped to keep the puck out of the net.

Orillia's final game was against the Toronto Shamrocks. The Terriers lost 4-0.
